The organisation of the Lyon Indoor Meeting is the result of the desire to create an indoor version of the MNEL (National meeting with a middle-distance theme, carried by the Décines Meyzieu Athletics since 10 Years) and to offer one more opportunity for athletes to express themselves indoors, in an often very limited calendar.
In addition, until now, the Region has not hosted any major indoor meetings (outside the Perche Elite Tour) and we wanted to highlight the Halle Stéphane Diagana in Lyon, by organizing a major event that brings together national and international athletes, always with a middle-distance dominance.
For its part, the Auvergne Rhône-Alpes Athletics League had the wish, for a long time, to organize an event in his image and representing its performing track & field. Its experience and expertise in organizing major events was well established.. But the League did not want to carry out such a project alone..
The establishment of co-organization between the two structures was done naturally and made it possible to gather numerous resources and skills.
Local authorities such as the City of Lyon Major Partner, the Auvergne Rhône-Alpes Region and Greater Lyon, immediately joined the project by offering to support this first edition.
From the beginning, the Lyon Indoor Meeting welcomed more than 60 Olympian athletes and 32 Different Nations.
His rise to prominence has allowed him to climb the ladder, from 22nd place in Europe and 55th place in the world to 10th place in European meetings and 12th place in world meetings in 2024.
The Lyon Indoor Meeting is anchored in its territory on the sporting part, but also through various actions around educational and societal values.
